If you have ever had a wart in your life there probably is a good chance that you have heard of the old fashioned remedy of using duct tape as an effective form of wart treatment. Is a myth or does it really work?
When it comes to warts there are plenty of folklore tales around telling us that if we kiss a frog we will get warts, so it is easy to to question some of the home removal remedies out there.
(Okay, kissing a frog is never a good thing to do, it will not give you warts 🙂
The way the one gets warts is through a virus which is known as HPV. HPV or the human pappilomavirus, has many different strands and medical science is still not able to provide us with a definite reason on why or how this virus occurs. However, they are able to tell us that warts are linked to the virus and that all warts are considered to be highly contagious.
Due to the fact that warts can spread, many people will look for a fast and effective way to get rid of the warts as soon as they appear. So, should you use duct tape?
What is the wart treatment duct tape method
The wart treatment duct tape method is as simple as it sounds. What you will do is place a few layers of duct on the warts. You need to make sure that the duct tape is only slightly bigger than the wart and it is advised to put a few layers on the wart. Also the duct tape needs to be on as tight as possible but of course not to tight where it may cause any circulation issues. All you do is leave the duct tape on for a period of 6 days. At that point, you will take the tape off and soak the warts in some hot water. Some people will not even need to soak the warts as when they peel off the duct tape the top layer of the wart may just come right off. If the top layer does not come off right away try soaking the wart in warm water for around 15 minutes. If the wart still looks the same and the top layer does not come off even after soaking, just simply repeat this process for 6 more days and try again. That is all there is to it when it comes to the wart treatment duct tape method.
Does the wart treatment duct tape method really work?
This will really depend on who you ask. Many people have had a lot of success with this method and others will tell you that it does not work. The reason why the wart treatment duct tape method is known to work is that the virus often lies in the top layer of the wart. If the duct tape removes the top layer then it is pretty safe to say that the wart treatment duct tape method is effective and does work. Go ahead and try it for yourself and if you are concerned that this could be just an old wives’ tale, just give your doctor call and see what they have to say.
