Cryotherapy Wart Removal
There are many methods that we are able to use when trying to remove warts. Depending on the type of warts that we have and how our bodies react will determine what treatments will work and what won’t. one treatment that is used quite often to remove warts is cryotherapy.
Cryotherapy is the process of removing a wart through freezing. This is performed using liquid nitrogen – a common freezing chemical. People who are using this method may need to have more than one treatment every one to four weeks or until the wart falls off. Some people need as many as four treatments depending on how large the wart is.
As effective as this method is it may still take up to a month for the wart to fall off completely. Your personal physician will examine it and be able to tell you the approximate amount of treatments that you will need and how long it will take. Most will use other medicines along with cryotherapy for patients who wish to speed up the removal process.
What They Do
Before beginning the cryotherapy the doctor will use a special medicine that will numb the area in order to reduce the pain that you feel. They may have to remove excess dead skin that is on the wart before they are able to go ahead with the procedure. They will apply the liquid nitrogen using a cotton swab or by spraying it on.
They will freeze the wart between five to sixty seconds until the ice has covered it completely. The tissue that is frozen will need to thaw out slowly before it is frozen again. The time it takes for them to treat it will depend on how large the wart is. After a few weeks and a few more treatments the wart will dry up and fall off.
Side Effects
Like with any type of medical treatment there are risks involved with cryotherapy wart removal. The area that is treated may become red and swollen and you will probably see either a scar, blister, or open sore form. In some cases it will either lighten or darken the skin and cause a small amount of pain. It is important that you do not pick the scar or blister – but allow it to fall on its own. This will prevent infection and allow it to heal faster.
